Ulas Karademir returns to IO Interactive as CTO

Danish studio IO Interactive has welcomed back Ulas Karademir as its new chief technical officer.

As reported by GI.biz, the developer has returned back to the Hitman maker after ten years. In his new role, he will be heading up all things technical, including IO's Glacier engine, and assisting in production on the studio's Project 007 James Bond title and RPG Project Fantasy.

Karademir previously worked at IO between 2007 and 2014, starting as a tools programmer and platform engineer, before moving to head up tech support for the Glacier 2 engine a year later. In 2011 he was promoted to technical producer for both Hitman and Glacier.

Since leaving IO, he has spent seven years at engine giant Unity, most recently as VP of productions, but has also worked at Better Collective and The TMRW Foundation as GM and chief product officer for RealityOS. That's on top of opening his own funding vehicle for angel investing, Karademir Aps.

"From the moment I stepped away from the studio, I felt deep down that I would find my way back, and now, that moment has arrived," said Karademir.

"I eagerly anticipate contributing to incredible titles such as Hitman, Glacier, Project 007 and Project Fantasy and the awesome management team Hakan put together.

"IOI has always been known for innovation, great gameplay, and immersive worlds, and I am determined to elevate our standards even further."

IO boss Hakan Abrak added: "Ulas is a tremendous addition to our team, bringing with him invaluable experience, knowledge, and leadership. Since he left IOI, Ulas has had an incredible track record in the different companies he worked in, and we are very excited to welcome him once more. As IOI is growing and we are looking to bring amazing IPs to our players, Ulas will be at the forefront of our innovative endeavors."
