The creator of DayZ, Dean Hall, has said that Valve needs more criticism over how some of its games are monetised.
Speaking to Eurogamer, the development vet said that the Steam giant should receive more negative attention than it does when it comes to how titles like Counter-Strike are measured; this involves a weapon and armour skin marketplace where users can trade often wildly valued items.
Incidentally, this market more or less crashed over the weekend, losing half of its $6 billion valuation after Valve made some changes to item rarity. Another market crash appears imminent as people who have purchased items that are now worth a huge amount of money prepare to sell once the seven-day trading hold ends.
"It's something I think Valve does not get anywhere near enough criticism about," Hall said.
"I'm honestly disgusted with gambling mechanics in video games at all – they have absolutely no place.
"My challenge to game developers is that if they think these things are not a problem, they make the data available to universities who are crying out to study this stuff."
