Swedish games firm Starbreeze Entertainment has released a subscription service for Steam users wanting to play Payday 2.
In a post on its website, the company said that this will be available for $4.99 per month, or $19.99 for six months at a time. This new service includes over 65 pieces of DLC. Buying all that separately would set gamers back well over $200 so it does appear to be a reasonable deal for consumers who don't already own all that content.
“With more than a decade of content behind Payday 2, we want to give players greater flexibility in how they experience the game,” Starbreeze's head of commercial, Gustav Nisser, said.
The subscription service makes it simple and cost-effective to enjoy everything Payday 2 has to offer – whether you’re new to the game or returning to explore DLCs you haven’t yet played. At the same time, all existing DLCs remain available for purchase as before. This is about giving players more choice.”
Payday 2 launched back in August 2013. The game was a huge success and has carried Starbreeze through some truly bleak times as a company; after going bankrupt in 2018, the firm pegged most of its future on 2023's Payday 3, though it appears that this underperformed for the publisher.
