Nexon investigating The First Descendant TikTok ads

Korean games giant Nexon is launching an investigation into a series of adverts for The First Descendant that appear to feature AI-generated content.

In a post on Twitter, the company said that it was looking into this marketing that appeared on TikTok. This follows a post from Reddit user iHardlyTriHard that detailed four adverts on the social media platform that appear to have featured AI content.

There's also the small matter of one such video featuring the likeness of influencer DanieltheDemon, who – responding to a news post on TikTok – wrote that he had no affiliation with The First Descandent. He went on to claim that the content of the advert was stolen from a viral video and AI was used to tweak what his voice says and mouth does. He closed by saying he never consented for this to take place.

Nexon is yet to respond to that particular detail.

"However, we have become aware of cases where the circumstances surrounding the production of certain submitted videos appear inappropriate. Thus, we are conducting a thorough joint investigation with TikTok to determine the facts," the Korean giant wrote.

"We sincerely apologise for the delay in providing this notice as the review is taking longer than expected. Once the verification is complete, we will promptly share an update through an official notice."
