Polish development giant CD Projekt RED has released a video to celebrate the tenth birthday of its flagship franchise, The Witcher.
The video (below) features some of the biggest characters from the series to date, including series protagonist Geralt, Ciri and Triss. Oh, and of course Gwent makes an appearance to, with some of the characters playing the in-universe card game.
The Witcher franchise has sold in excess of 25 million units in the last ten years. Based on a series of books from Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher series of games helped put CD Projekt RED on the map. Prior to that, the studio was best known for localising video games for the Polish market, first making a splash with bringing Baldur’s Gate to the region.
The first Witcher game hit shelves in 2007, though was hardly a smash hit. Its 2011 follow up, Assassins of Kings sold more than 1.7m units. But it was when The Witcher III: Wild Hunt hit shelves in 2014 that the franchise hit the big leagues. As of March 2016, that title had shipped more than ten million units.
The series also has its own card title spin-off in Gwent thanks to the popularity of the game.
CD Projekt RED is currently working on another action RPG title in Cyberpunk 2077. Words from the studio is that this is a more ambitious release than Wild Hunt, though there is no indication of a release date just yet.
