It covers the mobile (iOS and Android etc) and handheld (Switch etc) games industry, and is Steel Media’s flagship b2b site. It is the engine that drives the Mobile Games Awards, the Top 50 Mobile Game Makers list, and other activities including the Pocket Gamer Connects series of events and various mobile summits and mixers. The site is updated daily with news, features, interviews, profiles, event listings, job news and other timely and regular editorial pieces that support and inform the games industry. We are an essential resource for people working in the mobile and handheld games scene at every level, from student developers to the CEOs of ad-networks and everybody in between. We are constantly asking ourselves what utility we provide them all, and what we can do to report on and connect the mobile games ecosystem.

We host many international events, including the world-renowned Pocket Gamer Connects conference series. More than 27,000 industry professionals have attended the Connects international conference series since 2014. Since then, the roadshow has landed in the UK, Canada, USA, Finland, Hong Kong, Jordan and India with a genuinely international client base; on average, delegates from more than 45 countries attend each event.

The Role

The Business Development Executive role sits within the b2b side of the business and reports into the Business Development Manager. Ideal for a second sales job, you will be working alongside the b2b sales team, the primary focus will be generating sales leads and closing deals for both our advertising and events business streams. You’ll be required to contribute to your own monthly and annual revenue targets (which form part of an overall team target).


Lead Generation & Relationship Building:

  • Confident outreach to potential & previous clients presenting our services with a consultative approach.
  • Growing new contacts and leads via:
  • Face-to-face networking and meetings at trade shows and conferences utilising meeting platforms, networking socials and mixers as well as using your own initiative to introduce and integrate yourself into the games industry at large.
  • Online networking tools and platforms like Linked In, Slack, Discord etc..
  • Our in-house CRM database.
  • Maintaining regular contact with new and existing clients, ensuring you fully understand their business and marketing needs and noticing up-sell opportunities.
  • Timely response to all comms and being available to regular video and audio call requests.
  • Above all, being an approachable, consultative and open-minded partner.

Sales Proposals, Negotiation & Deal Closing:

  • Regularly presenting suitable and effective activation opportunities to your contacts with their budget in mind.
  • Building a sales pipeline that encompasses our advertising and events businesses.
  • Knowing your product offering and pricing inside and out.
  • Handling negotiations with appropriate diplomacy.
  • Closing the deal means ensuring our business can meet all negotiated deliverables.

Teamwork & Administration:

  • Daily and weekly video and audio meetings with the sales team plus regular check-in meetings with line-manager.
  • Keeping our CRM and variety of online systems updated daily (recording comms, proposals and deals).
  • Maintaining the deal booking handover process with our post sales team, once a deal is closed.
  • Taking part in company-wide feedback and discussion calls and face to face meetings (when possible).

Required Experience, Skills & Competencies

  • A proven sales track record or a minimum of 1-2 years client facing/account management experience with a strong desire to step into a sales role.
  • A willingness to travel regularly to international games industry events (when it’s possible again).
  • Excellent communication & networking skills.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Familiarity with G-Suite: Google Gmail, Docs & Sheets (or Microsoft Word & Excel).
  • A flexible attitude in a fast paced environment.
  • Enthusiasm to learn new skills quickly (remotely).

Desirable Experience, Skills & Competencies

  • 1+ year games industry experience (not necessarily in a pure sales role).
  • Ability to work remotely; with regular check-ins via video / audio conferencing and face to face meets when possible.
  • A passion for the games, mobile and new technologies industries.
  • Additional language skills a big plus, especially (e.g. Spanish, Korean, Arabic languages would all be useful)


  • Basic Salary (dependent on experience) + Monthly Commission
  • Remote working.
  • Ideally full-time but willing to consider part-time (minimum 3 days per week).
  • Probationary period 6 months.
  • All PAYE / contract / freelance setup options considered (location dependant).


  • Valid EU / UK passport with no special visa or travel restrictions.
  • Ideally based in the UK or Northern Europe (near a major airport) with a stable internet connection.
