Danish studio IO Interactive has opened a new outfit in Malmö, Sweden.
This office is already up and running, and will be working closely with the company's Copenhagen headquarters.
“We are super excited and proud to announce IOI Malmö. We will expand IOI to join a buzzing game developer community and bring our own unique IOI culture to this amazing town,” IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak (pictured) said.
“Furthermore, this will expand our muscles for creating brand-new and exciting endeavours, new universes, new franchises. In other words, IOI Malmö and Copenhagen are one family.”
“The IOI expansion in Malmö was a natural choice as there is a very strong existing video game industry. I believe it has all opportunities to become the epicentre of game development in Scandinavia.”
This follows an interesting few years for the Hitman developer. The Danish studio was spun out of previous owner and publisher Square Enix, going, independent. In doing so it kept the Hitman IP.
The developer launched Hitman 2 with Warner Bros last year, ditching the episodic business model of the first game. Speaking to PCGamesInsider.biz, IO described this game as a "fresh start".
