Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds leaving Early Access in December

Everyone’s favourite battle royale game now has a release date.

Announced via a post on Xbox Wire, the title is launching in ‘late December’ on PC, but no date has been confirmed. The Xbox One edition is coming out on December 12th, meaning that the console edition will be ‘out’ before.

The title has sold 15m copies on PC as well; as per the boxart for the Xbox One version.

For the time being, the PC and Xbox versions will be different. However, these differences will not last long, the announcement says. Creative director Brendan 'Playerunknown' Greene has said he would like to have cross-play between these two versions

"In addition to announcing Xbox’s XGP launch date on December 12, we also shared the exciting news that we’re on track to launch 1.0 for the PC version in late December,” PUBG Corp chief Chang Han Kim said.

“This has been an amazing year for us and launching both 1.0 on PC and on Xbox through Xbox Game Preview are huge milestones for the team. I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come in such a short time, but I’m even more excited to say that we’re just getting started."

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds launched in March. SteamSpy now pegs the game as having sold in the region of 18.5m copies

The title is now the project with the highest concurrent player count on Steam, reaching a cool 2m last month
