Assassin’s Creed and Wolfenstein shoot and stab up Steam Top Ten

Assassin’s Creed and Wolfenstein shoot and stab up Steam Top Ten

There are some new faces at the head of the Steam rankings.

The latest Assassin’s Creed title, Origins, placed second in the Top Ten, having been released on Friday 27th. Assassin’s Creed: Origins represents the first time since the release of Assassin’s Creed II, in 2009, that a main-series AC game has not released annually. Nazi-killing shooter, Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, also released on Friday 27th last week, and enters the rankings at No.3. The timely subject matter of the game and its marketing strategy saw it draw a lot of press. The game went on to launch to critical praise.

Another new entrant to the Top Ten is the pre-order of Football Manager 2018, at No.9. It was revealed yesterday that Football Manager 2018 will feature youth players coming out as gay within the game; the game’s director, Miles Jacobson, has said.

Cuphead and The Witcher 3 remain in the Top Ten, with the latter remaining on sale, this time as part of Steam’s Halloween Sale, which began on October 26th, with 60 per cent off, until November 1st. The timing of this sale matches perfectly with dates revealed in a recent leak about future Steam sales. Grand Theft Auto V also features in the Halloween Sale and so too features in the Top Ten, in fourth place.

The most recent instalment in the iconic Civilization strategy series, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, which was first released in Autumn last year, is at No.10. The game features in two separate bundles, but has a price-drop in neither; rather, it is available with the discounted XCOM 2 in one bundle and a discounted Steam Controller in the other.

7th place is missing, likely due to an error in the RSS. In eighth place is a pre-order edition or placeholder for AC: Origins.

Oh, and Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is still in first place. Duh.

Below is the Steam Top Ten for the week ending October 29th:

1. Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, Bluehole
2. Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Ubisoft
3. Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, Bethesda
4. Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar
5. Cuphead, Studio MDHR
6. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Game of the Year Edition, CD Projekt RED
7. [Missing]
8. Assassin’s Creed Originals - WW Standard Pre-order
