Full price PC market dips 10 per cent year-on-year in August despite Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds – report

Revenue generated by the premium digital PC market in August of this year has drunk by ten per cent compared with 2016, in spite of the continued runaway success of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds.

That’s according to research from Superdata, which says that despite the battle royale title raking in some serious money, it can’t compare to the launch of sci-fi blockbuster No Man’s Sky and the first round of new content from Blizzard team shooter Overwatch, both of which launched last August.

Overall, the digital games market grew by 11 per cent year-on-year to an impressive $7.9bn.

The biggest title, of course, was League of Legends, with the Chinese-market-focused Fantasy Westward Journey Online II and Dungeon Fighter Online claiming second and third places.

Below is the PC Top Ten by revenue for August 2017:

1. League of Legends, Riot Games
2. Fantasy Westward Journey Online II, NetEase
3. Dungeon Fighter Online, Neople
4. Crossfire, Tencent
5. Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, Bluehole
6. World of Warcraft, Blizzard
7. World of Tanks, Wargaming
8. Overwatch, Blizzard
9. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Valve
10. DOTA 2, Valve
