Keywords Studios' acquisition spree continues with $4.8 million acquisition of GameSim

Keywords Studios' acquisition spree is still ongoing as it has just bought software engineering outsourcing firm GameSim for $4.76 million.

The deal is made up of $3.2 million in cash, with the rest paid in shares. The deal is expected to boost Keywords' earnings in the first year.

GameSim is known for its simulation technology and video game work-for-hire services. Mobile game credits include Leo's Fortune for Tilting Point and NFL Showdown for Zynga.

When will it end?

"The acquisition of GameSim is an entry point into outsourced software engineering services and is highly complementary to our existing essential services to game developers and publishers around the world," said Keywords CEO Andrew Day.

"Our intention is to use this as a platform from which to build a market leading engineering capability and we continue to review a number of compelling acquisition opportunities in this specialist and large, yet fragmented market."

The acquisition comes exactly one week after Keywords picked up localisation CMS developer XLOC for $900,000. GameSim is its third acquisition of 2017 so far.

Keywords' spending spree appears to be proving a lucrative venture, having posted revenues of €96.6 million for 2016, an increase of 67% year-on-year, thanks to its eight acquisitions in the year.
